Why attend and participate in Content Days?
Let's start with answering what is a Content Day.
It is a day that is organized and styled to a specific theme where any creators such as photographers, videographers and any content creators come together and create their content. It is also a portfolio building opportunity to showcase your work to potential clients.
I have organized 4 content days in the past with different themes. The first one was right after Covid, I didn't have much to showcase as I became a professional photographer just 11 months before the pandemic hit and we were in lockdown. I had 4 different sessions in one day and over 3 hours. First I had Nadia and Sabrina from @chair_chatter (on Instagram) they are funny and raw, they have no filter, it truly is unfiltered comedy with them. Then I had Chantelle and her daughter Sienna (@chantidez on Instagram). They were very fun to work with. Chantelle was just starting her work with @Sient at the time, now her journey is so much more as she also shares her life with an ileostomy. I also had Cameron Gibson who I came across on TikTok and I loved his content as he moved to Canada and was trying Canadian snacks like ketchup chips and Tim Hortons and because he is a magician (@camerongibsonirl on IG). And lastly I invited Alexis Marcia: she is an actor and was a YouTuber at the time who happened to just move to Toronto. You can see her work in horror movies and music videos (@alexxismarcia) she was great to work with and super talented. I also collaborated with @somethinghappy.ca who provided a whole circus setup where Cameron as the magician fit perfectly in.
The point of me writing about this is that you can create your own content day and invite who you want but be prepared to spend your own money, I have covered 75% of the studio fee and my collaborator 25%. Then my next 3 content days were also in the studio and had a more of a bridal and editorial theme where I invited photographers and I charged them a fee to cover the costs for studio rental and space. It was $75 and I only had 4-5 creators. Why so little you ask? If I only have 1-2 models it’s not fair that the paying party has to wait and take turns, the good thing is that they learn to work together (imagine photographer, second shooter and videographer at a wedding). I have submitted two of these wedding portfolios I did from my content day that I got digitally published in The Wedding Ring, Confetti and Today's Bride in their wedding guide for 2024. I have also attended many content days for weddings and boudoir but out of respect and kind of an unwritten rule you don't submit your work to magazines or blogs without asking the organizer first in case they want to submit it, but also they should let you know as well.
This brings me to my current content day, it is different and in collaboration with @campbellscrossfarms. The theme 'hint' is the cover page of this blog, yep at a sunflower farm. We will have many props like a classic truck, a swing on a tree, a giant LOVE sign, red bike, a couch and a white ladder to name a few. Best part! Not only the admission is included but so is the famous watermelon sandwich! It truly is to die for! The idea at first of a fruit in a sandwich is weird but once you try it, you want more of it! All of that is only $175 and it's happening August 7th starting at 5 pm till 8 pm. We will have 4-5 model stations with 2-3 max creators per station. We will mingle and have a watermelon sandwich at 5-5:30 pm and get to our stations and start shooting at 6 pm the latest. The models I have for this content day are people I have worked with in the past and some I have not. There will be a maternity, a mom with two little girls, a female portrait, and two couples. I am super excited for this Content Day and I can't wait to have you join me. Limited spots are available. If you ever want to create your own Content Day and have questions, or you want to submit your work feel free to message me. (@oceanblastphotography on IG)
